Surface water temperatures in the Pacific can vary from −1.4 °C (29.5 °F), the freezing point of sea water, in the poleward areas to about 30 °C (86 °F) near the equator.
Plants that live in the Pacific Ocean include algae, phytoplankton, diatoms, kelp and sea grass as well as coral reefs. The Pacific Ocean has an expansive coral reef structure that provides a place to live for many of the smaller ocean animals that would be otherwise unprotected. The Pacific is home to a huge range of weird and wonderful creatures. From the endangered enormous gray whale to microscopic plankton. The Pacific is also home to jellyfish, rays and sharks. |
